Subway sketch ~ email auction
So, if you haven't been around Family of Five lately, you might be wondering what all this hoopla is over auctions, altered journals, esty shops, and so on. The original post about my daughter's mission trip can be found here. She has saved up as much money as she can, and is doing a great job.
Last week and interesting thing happened. She was at a confirmation meeting and the trip came up. Grace mentioned saving money for the trip and one of her classmates asked why she was doing that. Why weren't her parents paying for the trip?
The interesting part, to me, is that we never talked about our paying for the trip. Aside from the reality that we can't afford such a trip, it was just assumed, by all of us, that Grace would work for it on her own, that we would help her raise money and in the end, help her out as much as possible. (we still have to put back money for Jonathan's portion of the trip too)
At 12, she only can do so much. She saves her babysitting money, offers to take care of Nana's dogs, will mow again this spring, etc.. and with the art sale in November she did have nearly 1/3 saved! Then we were incredibly blessed by our dear friends' generosity as they gave the second 1/3 of the money to Grace. We are so thankful and she is seeing the way mountains can move!
So today begins an email auction for some of the things that were left from the sale. Today is this subway sketch from the incredible, Kathleen York ~ www.flickr.com/photos/kayork/ . She also has an etsy shop
